In early 2022, the Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) CEO Jeff Parker tragically lost his life to suicide, shortly after completing the 2022 State of MARTA event. This loss rocked the city and MARTA’s staff in particular, since many of them often refer to the 5,000-employee organization as a “big family.”
I worked with MARTA’s Artbound program to design this piece:
We designed and ordered 5000 wooden tokens with the MARTA logo, meant to reference their earlier method of using tokens to take the train
MARTA’s staff, along with The Bakery, coordinated almost a dozen “wellness fairs” across their various locations to work with MARTA employees to paint a token one of MARTA’s brand colors, as well as write the name or initials of someone they loved.
I worked to assemble all 5000 token into one large piece that reads out ONE MARTA when complete.
This piece was installed in the MARTA Headquarters in Lindbergh, Atlanta, as a memorial to Jeff and all of those we love.
