Last week, Atlanta experienced significant disruptions due to multiple water main breaks. The initial breaks occurred on Friday, impacting 48-inch and 36-inch transmission lines that serve a large portion of the city. This caused water outages and boil water advisories across downtown and midtown Atlanta, affecting key facilities such as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Emory University Hospital Midtown. Mayor Andre Dickens declared a state of emergency as crews worked on repairs, which continued throughout the weekend. Water distribution centers were set up to aid residents during the crisis.
Here’s how my friends were affected:
“Our pet sitter had to go to College Park to get water for our pets.”
“Our APS attached summer camp was closed.”
“Boil water advisory for 6 days, daycare closed, handwashing baby things in boiled water.”
“I couldn’t wash my dishes.”
